A recent study found that one-third of fast food packaging contained fluorinated chemicals, or PFASs, likely used in the packaging for their grease-repellant properties. The most studied fluorinated chemicals have been linked to testicular and kidney cancers and hormonal problems. While those chemicals have been phased out in favor of alternatives which have a shorter half-life, they haven’t been fully studied and it’s unknown what adverse health effects they could have. PFASs can migrate from packaging to food. Consumers who wish to avoid exposure may wish to pressure fast food chains into removing it from their packaging.<\/p>\n
