Researchers who study humpback whales are surprised to find that the animals are congregating in much larger groups than what are typical. This phenomenon has been linked to the spring feeding habits of the giant marine mammals. The surprising aspects of the behavior are the distance that the animals are traveling and the size of the group (up to 200 gather at a time). Researchers who have been studying the whales for decades report that this is the first time they have seen such behavior.
