Compared to yellow or white, the red onion came out superior. The testing was done at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. The team of researchers tested different strands of onions in different colors such as Lasalle, Fortress, Safrane, Stanely and Ruby Ring. The scientists found that red onions were the best at combating colon cancer cells and that &#8220;Ruby Ring&#8221; onions were better at combating malignant cells<\/p>\n<p id=\"takeawayheader\">Key Takeaways:<\/p>\n<ul id=\"takeaways\">\n<li id=\"takeaway1\">New research suggests that red onions can help fight cancer.  They are more powerful than either yellow or white onions.<\/li>\n<li id=\"takeaway2\">A 1998 study shed light on eight organo-sulfur compounds found in onions.  These compounds can help fight the onset of cancer itself for people.<\/li>\n<li id=\"takeaway3\">Southern Italian red onions may have the best known properties.
