Chinese food production is fraught with fraud, malpractice, and counterfeiting. A representative of a global food spy network declared that they uncover fraud 70 percent of the time, but that in China it is closer to 100 percent. No data was submitted to back up this dramatic claim given in a statement to Bloomberg. The well-known 2008 incidents involving of melamine laced baby formula and pet food are provided as examples of dangerous food scandals originating in China. Other examples provided include meats that were mislabeled, tainted with additives, and containing E. Coli levels beyond standards and plastic pellets passed off as rice.<\/p>\n
