For a period of nine days, a group of 43 children had all added sugar removed from their diet. Blood tests revealed that the children\u2019s cholesterol and blood pressure were significant lower than they were when the study began. Interestingly, the children\u2019s modified diet was not low in calories, fat, protein or carbohydrates, just sugar. These findings have led some researchers to believe that sugar has a bigger negative effect on metabolic function than excess calories or carbs.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously, this study is not the first to find that the consumption of excess sugar is bad for you. But with evidence that cutting excess sugar out of your diet can have such a big impact on cardiovascular health, anyone with high risk factors for diabetes and hypertension should make some big changes. It\u2019s possible to maintain a healthy diet that includes snacks, just not sugary junk food like candy, pastries and soda.
