Obesity Rate Rises to 38 Percent

November 24, 2015 By Corey B

Despite efforts to stem the tide, The National Health and Nutrition Survey Found that obesity rates in America have only increased in recent years. Currently, around 38 percent of the American populace are morbidly obese, a 3 percent rise from the national obesity rate in 2012. The reason for the obesity epidemic is likely well known by any parent who is searched for a healthy breakfast cereal for their child in recent years. Sugary junk foods with little nutritional value and high caloric count tents are ubiquitous and are priced to move. Comparatively, vitamin enriched foods are less accessible and more expensive.

Still, there are ways to maintain a healthy body weight in an era of rampant obesity. Obviously, cutting junk food at your diet is an important step. Not only does junk food not satisfy hunger, it also has the effect of spiking blood sugar and filling your system with empty calories. Also, taking steps to lead as active a lifestyle as possible are important in fighting obesity. It’s not just about going to the gym on a regular basis, it’s also about taking the stairs and never spending more than a couple of hours at a time engaged in entirely sedentary recreational activities. While it is difficult to resist the siren call of TV binge watching and junk food overindulgence, it’s considerably harder to live with debilitating medical conditions in later in life.
