Add black cumin to your diet: Research shows it can prevent cancer

According to a recent Egyptian study, black cumin could decrease the overall risk of cancer and suppress tumor progression in mice. Previous studies have also shown that thymoquinone, a compound found in black cumin seeds, inhibits the growth of tumors and suppresses inflammation associated with cancer. While black cumin is traditionally known as a cooking oil, it also helps to relieve allergy symptoms and contains bioactive compounds that safely give a boost to the immune system

Key Takeaways:

  • This study investigated the properties of thymoquinone. The researchers looked at whether it has anti-cancer properties.
  • The researchers used mice injected with thymoquinone and mice injected with Ehrlich ascites carcinoma. They then measured body weight gain or loss in the mice.
  • The conclusion of the research was that thymoquinone in black cumin has anti-cancer properties. Therefore, it can prevent cancer.

“In their study, published in the Australian Journal of Basic and Applied Sciences, they investigated the therapeutic and anti-cancer properties of thymoquinone using a carcinoma animal model.”
