A Michigan man almost lost his life when he was struck with a stomachache on Christmas Day. On December 25th, Kevin Breen was experiencing stomach pain. A few days later, the pain became so excruciating that he checked himself into the ER. Soon thereafter, his organs began to fail. As a result, his blood flow redirected itself to his organs, causing the skin on his feet and hands to blacken. According to one of the attending physicians treating Breen, he was by far the sickest patient she had ever encountered.
A rash appeared on Breen’s abdomen, which prompted doctors to test him for Strep. As it turns out, Breen’s had strep throat that his body was not able to adequately fight and it traveled into his stomach. This is only the second known case of this happening to a patient in the whole world. While Breen has since returned home, his hands and feet will have to be amputated due to the blood loss in those areas.
