Food allergies are a serious medical issue; however, there are many myths surrounding this condition. Although any food can be an allergen, most cases involve just a few foods, including seafood, nuts, gluten, and dairy. Even a small amount of these foods can trigger a life-threatening event for allergy sufferers. Despite popular thinking, it is rare to outgrow an allergy to nuts or seafood. However, some children do outgrow allergies to milk or eggs by the age of five.
