A new study has found a link between maintaining a diet that is high in fat with emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression. Published in the British Journal of Pharmacology, the study found that mice that have elevated blood sugar and excess body weight that were caused by a high fat diet were more likely to be depressed and anxious than mice with healthy diets. The study also uncovered that the high fat diet mice also had a resistance to the effects of anti-anxiety medication. Those two discoveries are interesting, but they pale in comparison to the study’s most surprising finding. Once mice got off the high fat diet, the rodent’s mental and physical health recovered completely.
That last discovery is meaningful because it suggests that by changing your diet from one loaded with unhealthy foods packed with saturated fat and refined sugars, you can significantly improve your mental and physical wellbeing. Of course, no one study can be considered definitive, but many previous studies have found that maintaining a nutritious diet and good mental health. Eating foods that are rich in vitamin B, omega-3 fatty acid and vitamin D will not only help satisfy your hunger, they’ll enhance the overall quality of your life.
