Constipation can feel like a curse sometimes and it’s always a struggle to find relief. Eating a lot of fruit and vegetables or taking a special drink may seem like a good idea, but they may also make you even more bloated and constipated. Hardly the picture of relief. Fortunately there are natural plant-derived supplements that you can take that are proven to ease the burden of being constipated. So, which is a safer bet to use to combat your constipation: Senna or Magnesium?

Using Senna For Constipation

Senna is an effective laxative that is also approved by the FDA for personal use. Senna is a type of herb, and the supplements are derived from the fruit and leaves of the plant. Senna contains active chemicals in it called sennosides. These chemicals irritate the lining of the stomach and prompt the body to empty its bowels, thereby being an effective constipation reliever.

Magnesium is often recommended to help ease the burden of constipation and is an easier solution than consuming psyllium husk or eating a lot of fiber-rich foods, which can cause your system to become even more blocked before it gets better. Using Magnesium supplements to help treat your constipation is often the best option and dosage should be anywhere from 250 to 600 milligrams.

Magnesium seems to be the safer bet as a route to treat constipation. Senna has been occasionally known to create dependency and lead to the body being used to it or dependent in order to have an effective evacuation. As Senna either from supplements or tea has an addictive quality, it’s safer to go with the Magnesium. The Magnesium won’t create the same effect on the body and you can rest easier knowing that your body won’t be dependent on it to function as you want it to.
