Diseases that could be caused by your Lack of Sleep

March 29, 2017 By Darrell Miller

There are many issues caused by a lack of sleep and some of these can be dangerous and lead to different diseases. Studies have shown that a lack of sleep can cause irritability, memory problems and stress. The lack of sleep has also been tied to increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease, prostate cancer, obesity and diabetes, suicide and heart disease. Some effects of lack of sleep are merely annoyances while others can be life threatening.

Key Takeaways:

  • Poor sleep isn’t just something none of us enjoy, it actually contributes to disease.
  • Studies show sleep removes “cerebral waste” and without this activity, dementia can occur, or progress more quickly.
  • Depression, cardiovascular disease and ulcerative colitis, are just some of the conditions potentially linked to poor sleep.

“When we sleep we allow our bodies to relax, recharge, and follow through with millions of intricate and important processes that aid the brain in achieving long-term memory, while cells regenerate and repair tissue damaged throughout the day.”
