Alpha Lipoic Acid is great for the body

Alpha Lipoic Acid is great for the body

January 6, 2017 By Corey B

Alpha Lipoic Acid is a favorite within the antioxidant sector. It is the most recent item to gain such popularity in such a short time. Antioxidants remove free radicals which become introduced to our body through harmful practices such as poor dieting and being exposed to pollution.

It may surprise you that we have been aware of Alpha lipoic Acid since the 50s. However, we incorrectly categorized the substance as a vitamin. It was not until around 1989 that we established correctly that the substance was indeed an antioxidant. The health industry is heavily populated with antioxidants. They all serve the same purpose, and this is to get rid of free radicals.

Alpha Lipoic Acid has some unique attributes. Number one being that it is a metabolic antioxidant which translates to the substance being necessary for metabolism purposes. Number two being that it is the only antioxidant available that is soluble in both water and fat. Good sources of Alpha Lipoic acid include spinach and broccoli.

When Alpha Lipoic acid is taken, it is quickly absorbed by the body and utilized, turning into a stronger known substance named dihydrolipoic acid. Your body makes its alpha lipoic acid and makes more than enough for metabolism of cells. However, the body is not smart enough to produce any more for antioxidant properties.

The benefits of Alpha Lipoic Acid seems to be endless; it has been proven that this substance makes vitamin c and e work more effectively, can be used for liver treatment purposes and has cell protection properties. This great substance is also used to treat nerve degeneration in certain parts of the world. Current research also shows there may be some mileage in using this item for heat/stroke purposes, although research is ongoing.

So by now you have learned that the miracle of Alpha lipoic acid can indeed benefit you in many ways. However, there is one major point that you need to be aware of. This substance is marketed in two forms, form S and R. Form R is what you require, and if you purchase anything else, then you are simply throwing your money down a drain as the body can only benefit from R.

The only side effects which come from Alpha lipoic acid are sickness and stomach upsetting; however, this is only experienced in minority cases and when the recommended dose of 50-100mg each day is exceeded. People with diabetes and similar people with issues with their blood sugar level should see a medical professional before supplementation of this product.

Alpha lipoic acid can change thyroid levels which may be a danger for thyroid sensitive individuals or those currently taking medicine for such problems. You have probably worked out by now that Alpha lipoic acid is a strong antioxidant and it is this exact reason why you need to seriously consider consulting the appropriate medical professional before use.
