7 Ways to Stay Cool & Prevent Heat Stroke Symptoms

June 27, 2017 By Darrell Miller

Heat Stroke is a significant issue. The stages of a heat illness include four stages: heat syncope or fainting, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. Heat stroke has many symptoms that range from rapid pulse to dark-colored urine. Fatigue, confusion, muscle weakness, and a body temperature above 103 degress are also some of the numerous symptoms. Heat stroke impacts the elderly, the young, people without air conditioning, athletes, outdoor workers, and people with illnesses more than healthy individuals. The best treatment is cooling down the impacted individual, but prevention (like staying hydrated and avoiding heat and sunlight) is also a way to avoid heat illness.

Key Takeaways:

  • The normal temperature of the human body. When the physiological mechanisms break down, our bodies tend to over heat causing symptoms of heat stroke.
  • The four stages to heat stroke are fainting, heat cramps, heat exhaustion and finally heat stroke.
  • Some risk factors of heat stroke include age, such as those who are 65 years and older or infants, those who don’t have access to AC and even athletes.

“Generally, heat-related illnesses occur in four stages: beginning with muscle cramping, leading to heat exhaustion and ending with heat stroke.”
