It was previously thought that we should eat “good cholesterol” to prevent heart disease, and to avoid “bad cholesterol” that increases plaque and raises your chance for heart disease. The difference between the two is density of lipoprotein. Bad cholesterol is low density lipoprotein and good cholesterol is high density lipoprotein. However, scientists have found that artificially increasing HDL does not help prevent heart disease, and that above a certain point, high HDL can increase risks of health problems. The only thing that everyone can agree on is that a healthy heart is best created through eating healthy, exercising, and not smoking or drinking.
