Is a healthy diet a sugar free diet?

February 22, 2017 By VitaNet Staff

Lately, there has been a war on sugar when it comes to dieting. While extra sugars should be monitored and controlled, natural sugars present in fruits and milk are fine. Sugar free diets have been known to improve weight loss and concentration, but there are also claims that it can help you sleep better and clear your complexion. Since there is sugar in a lot of foods, including bread and other healthy foods, it can be difficult to cut it out altogether. Doctors only recommend cutting out “added sugars,” and not all sugars, which can limit your diet too much.

Key Takeaways:

  • The sugar free diet is linked to celebrities who exclude all types of sugar, and often other carbohydrates too. It’s often used for weight loss, especially in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes, where cutting out sugar helps weight loss and diabetes control.
  • The healthiest sugar free diet is one where ‘added sugar’ is kept to a minimum, but healthy foods like fresh fruit and milk that contain naturally present sugars can still be included in the diet.
  • Sugar free diets are said to help you lose weight, improve concentration and increase energy.
