Study: Polyphenols may relieve rosacea symptoms

December 20, 2018 By Darrell Miller

More than sixteen million Americans are diagnosed with rosacea. Rosacea is an incurable disease that causes redness of the face and may cause facial blemishes. However, a recent study in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Health says that polyphenols found in botanicals have proven successful in treating rosacea instead of using prescription drugs. Polyphenols are one of the three elements found in antioxidants and can be found in abundance in cranberries, elderberries, cherries, green tea, and red wine. Studies have shown that Vitamin D is another natural solution in treating issues of rosacea.

Key Takeaways:

  • Data acquired by the National Rosacea society suggests that as many as 16 million U.S. citizens suffer from, the condition.
  • What’s more staggering is the fact that an approximate 95% of sufferers are unaware of the diagnosis of their condition.
  • Rosacea is a common and incurable facial condition, characterized by facial redness, visible blood vessels, skin bumps and watery eyes.

“A metanalysis published in The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Health, however, found that the polyphenols found in botanicals can successfully treat several of the more unpleasant symptoms associated with rosacea, without the unpleasant side effects of chemical medicines.”
