Dogs help us in many ways, not the least of which is to help us handle stress and make us generally happier. Certain populations can especially benefit from having a dog as a companion. One is those who struggle with addictions. Another is the elderly, especially those living alone. Dogs also help young children dealing with traumatic events, and some programs are even allowing them into courtrooms for this purpose. In general, dogs can help people connect with each other in ways that they normally wouldn’t.
