Cold water vs warm water: what are the benefits?

April 22, 2021 By Darrell Miller

Both cold water and warm water have benefits when it comes to drinking it. Drinking water when we work out is extremely important and we want to drink cold water because our body temperature increases when we are working out. Drinking cold water helps reduce that temperature and prevents us from overheating. When it comes to digestion, we want to go with warm water as cold water can lower energy intake as well as slow down the digestion process which can cause constipation and bloating.

Key Takeaways:

  • Given that there are many ways to consume water that all boast different advantages, could temperature be another way of further boosting the advantageous effects of drinking water?
  • According to Huntriss, the temperature of water you drink while working out is especially important.
  • She even recommends a temperature to aim for if you’re especially interested in reaping the fitness benefits of drinking cold water.

“Whichever delicious ways you choose to consume water, however, you have to ensure that you’re hydrating adequately. The NHS advises drinking six to eight glasses of water a day.”
