Discover these top prebiotics and what they can do for your health

April 2, 2021 By Darrell Miller

There are many different prebiotics available to use that can really help our health. Prebiotics are high in fiber and they also feed your gut healthy bacteria which can fight off the bad bacteria in our gut. Some foods that are considered prebiotics would be apples, bananas, garlic, onions, artichokes and flaxseed. Beta-glucan is a specific prebiotics that is found in barley and oats and they help support the good cholesterol in our body as well as support healthy blood sugar levels.

Key Takeaways:

  • Barley and oats contain a prebiotic fiber called beta-glucan. Beta-glucan is shown to support healthy cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
  • Apples contain a compound called pectin that increases the production of a short-chain fatty acid called butyrate that improves gut bacteria balance.
  • Incorporate prebiotics into your daily diet to help reduce your risk of chronic disease, ease symptoms like bloating, and improve your overall wellbeing.

“Prebiotics are high-fiber foods that feed your friendly gut bacteria (microbiota), which benefits your gut health and you!”
