According to a study published in the Journal of Complementary and Integerative Medicine, ginger may be effective in the treatment of tuberculosis. The study, conducted at India’s Sri Aubindo Institute of Medical Sciences, involved 69 pulmonary tuberculosis patients divided into two groups. Members of one group were given 3g of ginger extract every day for a month. Members of the other group received a placebo. Comparison of blood samples taken before and after the treatment showed that participants who received the ginger extract showed reduced levels of TNF alpha, an inflammatory marker.
