Testosterone is a male hormone produced in the testes. A little amount of this hormone is also found in women. It is produced in the adrenal gland. The level of testosterone in men will drop if the adrenal gland is not performing to its ideal levels. This hormone is vital in a man’s physical development and regulation of other body processes. Whenever testosterone levels drop, doctors prescribe testosterone injection.

Natural ways to boost testosterone production in your body

There are certain foods that are known to increase testosterone production in men. Foods that are rich in zinc and fats are great in this aspect. Therefore for optimal production of dairy, oysters, lean meat, poultry products, flax seed, olives, nuts, beans and oily fish.

  • Get enough sleep

Lack of enough sleep is a major cause of stress. Stress increases the level of cortisol hormone in blood that affects testosterone production adversely. Therefore, ensure you sleep for at least 8 hours every day.

  • Avoid alcohol

Alcohol lowers testosterone levels. When men reach their 40s, testosterone levels usually drop to half of the original.

 

The importance of testosterone in men

Testosterone provides the body with energy. This prevents you from suffering fatigue. Combats dysfunction and low libido. Testosterone primarily controls libido to increase sex drive. Improves muscle strength. Testosterone helps in building lean muscle and combating weight gain. Low levels of this hormone in the body causes one to have less lean muscle.

Testosterone helps maintain a balanced mind and increased concentration. When testosterone levels drop in male’s body, they begin to experience mood swings. Thy may suffer from anxiety and depression. A boost in testosterone levels helps combat depression and help an individual to start enjoying life again.

Improves sleep. Low testosterone levels is a major cause of sleeplessness in men. Hence, boosting testosterone levels in the body aids in giving one good night’s sleep which is essential to keep you alert and healthy.

Symptoms of low testosterone in men

Some of the symptoms of low testosterone in men include erectile dysfunction, low libido, depression, loss of lean muscle, sleep apnea, mood swings and irritable behavior, weight gain, and lack of mental concentration.

In healthy men, the normal testosterone levels generally range between 300 ng/dL and 1050 ng/dL. However, these levels decline with aging and may fall below the normal range.
