Limiting protein reduces post-heart attack injury in mice

Every year, approximately 735,000 Americans have a heart attack. To prevent sudden cardiac death, the blocked coronary artery has to be opened to restore blood flow and this procedure can cause permanent damage due to inflammation leading to possible heart failure. Researchers have discovered a protein that, when targeted, can decrease both the possibility of post surgical injury and future heart failure.
