A recent study shows that patients who suffer from inflammatory bowel disease and ulcerative colitis may not actually be benefiting from taking probiotics even though they have been used to relieve certain symptoms. It was discovered that there was no actual difference in controlling the diseases between patients who were taking probiotics compared to patients who were taking a placebo. Although the study showed that the good and bad bacteria have definite functions they perform in the body, it cannot be confirmed what role probiotics play.
