Study pinpoints key pathway in inflammation and aging

New research is helping to unlock the connection between gut inflammation and the process of aging. Colitis, a condition affecting a person’s intestines, has been linked with a chemical message the body sends called IL-10. By studying both animals and humans, scientists have discovered that IL-10 impacts inflammatory cell processing, and helps to repair damaged areas of the cells. This knowledge may help doctors to better treat gut inflammation as well as to improve care for individuals who are growing older or who have other diseases affected by cells that are functioning improperly.
