Vitamin D and magnesium are necessary for optimum health. Vitamin D can help the immune system while protecting against such diseases as cancer and dementia. Additionally, magnesium helps prevent against stroke, type 2 diabetes, and support hearth health. Sadly, it is estimated that 80% of Americans are magnesium deficient. Supplementation and diet are the key to maintaining proper magnesium levels. The best foods for this are dark leafy vegetables, fatty fish, nuts, avocados, whole grains, tofu, bananas, beans and dark chocolate.

Key Takeaways:

  • It is known that vitamin D and magnesium are important for optimal health but new research has shown that magnesium plays a role in optimizing vitamin D levels.
  • One fact that has to be noted is that optimal Vitamin D level is good to the body for energizing the immune system and protecting us against cancer.
  • Recent research has shown that magnesium has a balancing effect on vitamin D levels. Magnesium raises it when it is in deficiency and reduces it when high.

“This optimization effect is significant because a mid-range vitamin D level has been connected with heart health. The researchers hope these revelations will provide insights about the role of vitamin D and colorectal cancer risk.”
