Fight Oxidative Stress And Free Radicals With Antioxidants

November 16, 2016 By Corey B

Antioxidants have continued to receive more and more attention over the last decade. It seems like everyone knows that they need it as part of their daily intake. However, few people know what they are or what purpose they serve. The primary purpose is to aid the body in fighting free radicals. They do this by slowing down and sometimes preventing the oxidation of other molecules within the body.

Essentially, free radicals cause molecules within cells to destabilize. Since free radicals are naturally very unstable, they attack and destroy other healthy cells in order to gain the resources to stabilize themselves. The oxidative damage that results from free radicals has been linked to a variety of diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, neurological diseases, and muscle/tissue degeneration. By neutralizing free radicals, antioxidants help keep the body healthy and balanced.

They are present in a variety of different foods, primarily fruits, and vegetables. Supplements are essential to getting enough antioxidants. However, this does not mean that fruit and vegetables can be ignored. Quality multivitamins do not only provide antioxidants, but also the resources that your body needs to produce them as well. However, in order to produce them, your body needs additional zinc, selenium, manganese, and copper. Additional common ones include Vitamin A, C, and E, selenium, melatonin, and alpha lipoic acid. Antioxidants are molecules that have the capability of preventing oxidation of other molecules. In light of anti-aging, they prevent the formation of free radicals.

Antioxidants are a group of nutrients that protect the body from damage caused by various factors, most importantly oxidative damage caused by free radicals. It helps prevent oxidation, may increase immune responses, and possibly decrease the risk of infection and cancer. They also beat down the passing of the aging clock making your skin and other organs rejoice. Glutathione is the strongest among all kinds of antioxidants. They are generally present in our body since we were young but drain as we get older.
