March 2, 2021 By Darrell Miller

Heart disease is the leading cause of death among Americans, but it is can be avoided by eating a proper diet. Sunflower seeds provide a healthy alternative snack to the likes of potato chips and cookies. These seeds contain oleic acid, which can raise healthy HDL cholesterol while lowering the unhealthy LDL kind. One published study showed that omega-3 polyunsaturated acids such as oleic acid lessen the risk of cardiovascular disease. Sunflower seeds are also rich in amino acids, protein, Vitamin E, magnesium and arginine, which benefits arteries. Try adding them to salads, pasta, rice, oatmeal or casserole dishes.

Key Takeaways:

  • Sunflower seeds contain oleic acid which is a very beneficial acid that is found in olives and avocados and helps lower cholesterol.
  • Animal studies support the fact that a diet high in oleic acid can help fight against heart disease and cancer.
  • Sunflower seeds are rich in amino acids and can help prevent the build up of body fat and boost the immune system.

“Sunflower seeds – with their crunchy, pleasing texture and mildly sweet, buttery taste – are virtually perfect snack food. They are not only packed with essential micronutrients and antioxidants but are also rich in natural plant oils that work together to ward off heart disease.”
