Should Apple Cider Vinegar Be Part of a Schizophrenia Treatment Plan?

October 27, 2019 By Darrell Miller

Oddly enough, apple cider vinegar has become popular as an alternative treatment for many ailments, both physical diseases and supposedly even schizophrenia. It has been suggested that apple cider vinegar could be used to ease the effects of quitting psychoactive medication. This is said to be because of how the digestive microbiology seems to have an effect on the mental health of an individual. However, there is little evidence to support this, and doctor Ken Duckworth does not recommend it as part of schizophrenia treatment. Medications like clozapine can be used to treat schizophrenia and omega-3’s have been linked to lower rates of mental illness.

Key Takeaways:

  • Apple cider vinegar helps improve gut health, and gut health may be connected to brain health.
  • One way to assess the benefits of apple cider vinegar is by eating brain-boosting foods that contain specific vitamins.
  • Some recommendations are dark leafy greens, colorful vegetables, fish, and meals from the Mediterranean diet plan.

“Some sources, such as an article titled Schizophrenia & Natural Remedies on the website Jung Circle, list cider vinegar as an ingredient that can be used in a formula to soothe the body when you’re coming off psychiatric medications.”
