Absorb More Calcium with Vitamin K

October 14, 2015 By Corey B

We all know that calcium strengthens the bone, but we do not know that Vitamin K is another key factor of bone health. It helps in strengthening the bones and helps in absorbing calcium like Vitamin D. Vitamin K, especially Vitamin K2 is crucial for preventing any kinds of fractures and also supports women to deal with bone complications in the post menstrual period.

A study report says that lifetime supplementation of Vitamin K and calcium can reduce fractures and increase the survival chances in postmenopausal women. Women face many difficulties after the menopausal phase and their bones start to lose strength speedily in the initial ten years. There is also a risk of osteoporosis during this period. If they will take Vitamin K and calcium supplements in these days, they can reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

Why it is important to take Vitamin K along with Calcium

If you are currently taking calcium for your bones, then make sure that you are also taking Vitamin K for a greater absorption of calcium. The combination of these supplements can help you meet all the needs of your bone and the benefits of calcium are mostly dependent with Vitamin K.

How Calcium is dependent with Vitamin K

There is evidence that Vitamin K, particularly Vitamin K2, plays an important role to direct calcium to your bones. Vitamin K prevents any deposit of the calcium in the organs, arteries, and joint spaces. Hence, if you are under the impression that only calcium can help you strengthen your bones and teeth, then you are wrong. In fact, more calcium can create some health complication. So, the combination of calcium and naphthoquinone is required if you want to get maximum benefit from the calcium and to avoid any storage of calcium in some parts of your body.

Vitamin K2 stimulates a protein hormone known as osteocalcin that is produced by osteoblasts, which is required to bind calcium into the matrix of the bone. Osteocalcin also prevents calcium to deposit in your arteries. Calcium is good for your bones, but it is not good for the arteries. Therefore, if you want to get the benefits of calcium without creating any problem for your arteries then consider having it with Vitamin K. It will reduce the negative impacts of calcium. Another benefit of Vitamin K is that it protects the blood vessels from calcifying in the presence of high calcium levels in your body.

How to get calcium and Vitamin K naturally

You can get calcium and Vitamin K supplements to meet your requirements, but it is always favorable to get these vitamins naturally from healthy diets and from safe sun exposures.

You can get calcium from raw milk, cheese, vegetables, sesame seeds, wheatgrass, and carob. It is good if you consider taking calcium from the dietary product as it absorbs quickly and also reduces the chances of heart stroke. You can also get Vitamin K from dietary products. But that will not be enough. Hence, take the Vitamin K supplements regularly with the recommendation of your physician.
