Are eggs healthy?

May 15, 2017 By Darrell Miller

Egg yolks contain vitamins, minerals and amino acids needed in our diets because our bodies can’t create them. Although yolks also contain cholesterol, due to their low amounts of saturated fats, the government has approved eggs as a recommend food in it’s dietary guidelines. Studies have also shown that eating eggs does not increase heart disease risks. The way eggs are prepared however, can be concerning. Poached eggs and spinach on letters can be lean alternatives to fatty preparations like Eggs Benedict with a side of bacon.

Key Takeaways:

  • Protein in eggs help build and retain muscle mass. The 9 amino acids they contain are essential to our diet.
  • Eggs are low in saturated fats which helps cholesterol from increasing.
  • What you eat with your eggs matter. High calorie high fat food undermine eating healthy eggs.

“Eggs are also one of the few food sources of vitamin D and a source of the nutrient choline, which may help protect against birth defects in infants.”
