Artificial sweeteners may have another negative effect. A recent study shows that many common artificial sweeteners including sucralose and aspartame may be harmful to your gut’s microbial system. The study showed that extremely low quantities of these chemicals were toxic to the gut. Besides being bad for gut health artificial sweeteners are also harmful to the environment and the rest of your body. They are linked to weight gain and Type II Diabetes which are common issues that people are actively trying to avoid by drinking beverages with the artificial sweeteners.
