May 18, 2021 By Darrell Miller

A new study is showing that if you eat a ton of nitrate-rich vegetables you can increase your muscle strength without even exercising. Scientists found that a nitrate-rich diet leg to 11% better muscle function in the lower limbs compared to those without a nitrate-rich diet. Muscles aren’t the only part of the body a nitrate-rich diet improves, as it also can help benefit your heart health by lowering your blood pressure. If you are looking to benefit your health, start adding more nitrate-rich vegetables to your diet.

Key Takeaways:

  • The 12-year study involved nearly 4,000 Australians and looked at nitrate intake.
  • Nitrate-rich vegetables include beets, arugula, spinach, kale, cabbage, chard and broccoli.
  • Other studies have shown that beet juice can lower blood pressure and cruciferous vegetables can reduce calcium build-up.

“In a study published just last week in The Journal of Nutrition, researchers found that eating one cup a day of green leafy vegetables significantly boosts muscle function.”
