What is the Alkaline diet, how does it work, is it safe and are there any success stories?

January 28, 2017 By VitaNet Staff

Most people today are consuming a diet high in acids, these foods promote weight gain and other heath problems. A diet that is high in Alkalinity is both healthy and safe. Cutting out excessive eating of meats, sugars and caffeine among other foods that produce acid when digested and replacing with fruits, vegetables, beans and soy can be healthy to your waistline, your liver and kidneys. It is a diet embraced by several celebrities and anyone who wants a healthier lifestyle

Key Takeaways:

  • The diet involves cutting back on foods which produce acid when ingested which supposedly results in better health. This means cutting out all meat products, wheat and other grains, refined sugar, dairy, eggs, caffeine, alcohol and processed foods. These are replaced by alkaline foods such as fruits and vegetables.
  • The diet was originally invented as a way to prevent kidney stones and urine infections as well as various other conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, tiredness, weight gain and liver disorders; however, experts say there is little evidence to support these claims.
  • The media hype all started when Victoria Beckham tweeted about a cookbook of alkaline diet recipes and several other celebrities have come forward as advocates of the diet as well.

“High acid levels have since been linked to conditions including arthritis, osteoporosis, tiredness, weight gain, kidney and liver disorders.”
