There are many diseases that tend to occur in one gender over the other. Autism, for instance, is more common in males. It is usually only found in women when they have a thicker cortical area, which more closely resembles the brain anatomy of men. This realization could lead to further research on how autism is caused by giving us a better idea of what makes a brain more susceptible. While they are not sure why, it has been hypothesized that a thicker cerebral cortex makes the brain more likely to develop autism.
