Candidiasis is an infection that occurs when there is an excessive production of yeast inside the vagina. It is typically the result of an imbalance of good and bad bacteria in the body. When the good bacteria levels go down, yeast multiplies, causing the infection to develop.
Women are more prone to an infection and usually suffer more severe candida yeast infection symptoms, but men are not spared from the infection either. In fact, even children and babies can sometimes succumb to certain varieties, often referred to as thrush.
Male Yeast Infection Symptoms
In men, the most common candida yeast infection symptoms include redness and swelling of the head of the penis, itchiness and rashes along the penis shaft, and the appearance of a white and malodorous discharge. However, these symptoms are rarely seen as a male infection is usually transitory and very minor.
Female Candida Symptoms
Female infections, on the other hand, almost always comes with uncomfortable and painful candida yeast infection symptoms. Common signs are persistent itching in the vagina and surrounding areas, a white or yellowish discharge with the smell of stale bread, a burning sensation around the vaginal opening and pain while urinating or having sexual intercourse.
For some women, vaginal infections may go away on its own, usually after the menstrual flow has begun. However, there are also women who suffer from infections for months at a time. For some cases, professional medical treatment is necessary, to correctly diagnose your infection.
There are many different kinds of medications today that can be used to fight candida yeast infection symptoms. Most require a topical application of creams, ointments or suppositories. If you prefer natural remedies, there are also a variety of choices, including yogurt, boric acid, teal tree oil or other natural home cures that have been used by millions of people over the years.
If you are pregnant and notice some of the candida yeast infection symptoms, it is crucial that you let your caregiver know right away, to determine what the problem is. It should also be noted that some symptoms may be highly similar to those of urinary tract infection and other diseases. If you are not sure, it is best to consult with a doctor before beginning any form of treatment.
