This Mayo Clinic post points out a fact that many working adults may be reticent to admit. If you don’t take time out to allow yourself to relax and making sure your body is getting everything it needs to function optimally, you’ll inevitably pay for it. The article mentions a recent study that found when NBA players who rack up more than 333 hours of gameplay per year, their performance begins to fall off and their risk of incurring a seriously debilitating injury increases greatly. While most of us don’t have the physical demands that athletes like LeBron James and Peyton Manning face on a daily basis, we still have to deal with the consequences of not taking care of ourselves.
For example, if a person doesn’t break up extended periods of time spent at a desk or in front of a television set up with some kind of aerobic activity, they have a high risk factor of developing a cardiovascular disease later in life. As such, it’s incredibly important to make self-care a priority. That means taking steps to break up long periods of sedentary activity and sticking to a diet that is high in essential vitamins and minerals. Not doing so places an extreme amount of stress on our bodies and that continual strain will catch up with you in the form of limited mobility and debilitating disease.
