Are You Getting Enough Essential Nutrients?

To maintain strong mental and physical health, you need a steady intake of the six essential nutrients. Being deficient in carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins, fat, minerals and water can a majorly adverse effect on your health and can lead to the development of a variety of serious illnesses. However, you may be unknowingly depriving yourself of vital nutrients.

For instance, in the winter we are exposed to less sunlight than in other parts of the year. Consequently, if you haven’t an adjusted your vitamin D intake to compensate for the amount you’ll be losing by not being exposed to the sun, you could easily find yourself becoming vitamin D deficient.

Another example of how you might find yourself becoming nutrient deficient is if you make the decision to adopt a vegetarian diet. While vegetarian diets have a number of health benefits, you have to take into consideration the number of nutrients you’ll be losing by not consuming food made from animals, like vitamin B 12. As most Americans get their vitamin B 12 through the consumption of animal-based foods, you’ll want to add a supplement to your diet to make sure you don’t become nutrient deficient.
