Fascinating study finds that men who eat 4 cloves of garlic per day smell more attractive to women

March 30, 2019 By Darrell Miller

Exactly 42 men were put into a rotation in which they ate four cloves of garlic each day to see how their scent would appeal to women. Surprisingly, after asking 82 women to smell each man, they found that they reported the men smelling much more intriguing. Exactly 12 grams or more have to be consumed in order to get this effect, as anything below that was shown not to provide significant differences in how the women viewed the men.

Key Takeaways:

  • 2015 study in Appetite Journal showed that eating garlic may alter a man’s body odor, thus making them more attractive.
  • The antibacterial activity of garlic may make the armpits smell sweeter and lessen the number of microbes that cause bad odor.
  • Eating fruits and vegetables may also make men smell more healthy, while carbs do the opposite.

“Researchers explained that women might have evolved to favor a scent which indicates that the person is healthy.”
