The website for a major news network has a piece about worms that eat plastic. A scientist working under the University of Cambridge researched the wax worm, considered a pest for beekeeping. She and her team found that the worm was capable of breaking down plastic bags, which are considered not biodegradable. The team is trying to see if the worm has an enzyme that is breaking down the plastic. If they can find this out, they may be able to break down the plastic. A link is embedded.
