Numerous studies have made a link between one’s fitness and level of intelligence. Now, this may seem a bit against perceptions and our typical understanding of stereotypes, but it is true nevertheless.
What accounts for this connection? Some believe that it is the benefit of increased blood flow through the circulatory system. As one works out and the heart rate is elevated, more and more blood is pumped through the body. This means that more blood is received in the brain, thus making for a happy and healthy brain.
What else does this increased blood flow do? Well, it also distributes more and more oxygen throughout the body. It is well known that red blood cells carry with them oxygen, so the better flow of blood you have in your body the more oxygen you will have. This means in turn that if your brain is doing well with its reception of blood, it’s also going to get the other benefit of more oxygen.
What does more oxygen in the brain mean? You guessed it…a happy and healthy brain.
