These are the foods you should avoid if you have an underactive thyroid

March 19, 2019 By Darrell Miller

If underactive thyroid is a problem that affects your life, there are some foods that shouldn’t be included on your menu. Green, leafy vegetables like spincah are dissuaded from the list of foods rigt for you to eat, but you should also avoid consumption of soy, gluten, and iodine if you want to maintain proper thyroid levels and avoid a slew of consequences that negatively affect your thyroid and the way that you feel as result.

Key Takeaways:

  • Green, leafy vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage only make hypothyroidism worse if you are also suffering from iodine deficiency.
  • If your hypothyroidism is due to Hashimoto’s disease, you should avoid gluten as it interferes with your body’s ability to absorb iodine.
  • If you are taking medication for hypothyroidism, avoid eating foods that contain soy because it can interfere with the medication.

“A person is said to have hypothyroidism when his thyroid gland doesn’t produce enough hormones to meet his body’s needs.”
