Want to increase your muscle strength? Have more vitamin D. Scientist studied the effect of inactive and active forms of vitamin D on muscle functions. It was previously known that vitamin D increases bone strength and inactive vitamin D is related to lack of muscle mass. In their study the scientists found that in women those with higher lean body mass and more muscles had higher levels of active vitamin D. This was not necessarily true in men. Identifying how the relationship between vitamin D and the muscles works can in the long run help healthcare providers improve their patients’ muscle functions.
