There is a strong correlation between air pollution and the number of asthmatic cases, respiratory issues and allergic reactions. Researchers at Osaka University in Japan have found that certain air pollutants destroy white blood cells in the body which are designed to fight and destroy those pollutants. Upon their destruction, these white blood cells release chemicals that cause the lungs to become inflamed upon the presence of an allergen, leading to an allergic reaction. As a result, people are more susceptible to asthma and allergy attacks. Scientists are still determining appropriate treatment and intervention to reverse this dangerous cycle.
