Carrots Aren’t the Only Vegetables that Promote Good Eye Health.

You probably heard it a million times when you were a little kid; if you want to have good eyesight, you need to eat a lot of carrots. The reasons your parents repeated that little piece of wisdom so many times is that carrots are rich in vitamin A. That particular nutrient has been proven to prevent focal drying of the cornea, which can lead to blindness. It also possesses properties that can delay the effects macular degeneration. However, carrots are far from the only vegetables that can promote strong retinal health.

Leafy green vegetables like kale, spinach and collard greens are rich in lutein and zeaxanthin, a pair of antioxidants that fight macular degeneration. Another antioxidant that helps keep your eyes strong and sharp is vitamin C, which can be found in red and yellow bell peppers, as well as oranges and lemons. Vitamin E is great for keeping your eyes healthy, so it’s a good idea to add some E vitamin-packed vegetables broccoli and avocado to your diet. Vitamin B9 is also a dependable macular degeneration fighter. As such, you should definitely stock up on asparagus and lettuce if you want keep your eyes in good condition.
