CBS: Fluoride exposure in utero linked to lower IQ in kids, study says

September 26, 2017 By Darrell Miller

Fluoride exposure has been shown to be linked to possible lower functioning of an infant’s brain. Fluoride has been used because it remineralizes your teeth to keep cavities to a minimum. There are better ways to do that, however, by minimizing starchy, sugary foods, increasing your vitamin and mineral intake either with food or supplements, eating crunchy foods with a higher moisture content to lessen the effects of sugars and stimulate saliva, brush at least two times daily, reduce acid reflux symptoms, and make sure dry mouth problems are taken care of, since saliva is very beneficial in reducing the amount of cavities you get.

Key Takeaways:

  • Fluoride exposure in-utero may lead to lower intelligence later in life.
  • Fluoride in the water system is intended to strengthen and clean teeth.
  • There are many at-home ways to strengthen and clean teeth that do not involve Fluoride.

“A recent study published in the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, to date the largest and longest study evaluating fluoride exposure and its impact on the developing brain, found that increased levels of prenatal fluoride exposure might be associated with lower cognitive function in children.”
