Non-Cannabis Phytocannabinoids That Affect the Endo-Cannabinoid System

June 20, 2018 By Darrell Miller

Think marijuana is the only way to stimulate the Endo-Cannabinoid system? Wrong. Want to know what the Endo-Cannabinoid System is? Well, you have come to the right place.

The Endo-Cannabinoid System is just as important as all the other organ systems included in the body, however, it is less talked about due to the negative stigma surrounding Cannabinoids.

Before jumping into how the body produces and digests Cannabinoids, it is important to understand what this system is and how it works.

The body produces its own cannabinoids that bind to cannabinoid receptors within the brain and body. There are two types of receptors, both known as Cannabinoid Receptor 1 (CB1) and Cannabinoid Receptor 2 (CB2). Scientists find CB1 in the brain for the most part, but can also be found spread throughout the body. The latter of the two, CB2, is contained more throughout the body but there are some CB2 receptors in the brain as well. When Cannabinoids bind to these receptors, it affects thing such as pain levels, stress, memory, mood, and the reward system.

CB1 affects neurotransmitter levels, including the neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin.

CB2 is in the blood cells and immune system.

Both within the brain and body, but each affects its own area primarily.

This article is about Phytocannabinoids (plant-derived Cannabinoids,) including how they work, what the benefits are, etc.

Phytocannabinoids do not just include marijuana and THC oil. They can also include more natural derivatives such as Magnolia, Peony, Omega-3 Fish oil, and many more plants/herbs. There are some Phytocannabinoids you may not even know, such as coffee, chocolate, and a whole lot more.

All of these have neuroprotective properties that induce relaxation and help to de-stress a person. These types of Cannabinoids help to treat mental disorders like depression and anxiety and have been of use in Chinese medicine specifically. You can turn these herbs into teas and extracts and watch how these impact the Endo-Cannabinoid System. It has been proven, as said before, to treat mental disorders and sleep disorders. However, it is important to note that when consuming products including these ingredients to eat meals with high levels of fat. This is because herbs such as Magnolia contain fat solubles which burn fat.
