Probiotics found to offset the detrimental effects of stress on the immune system

According to Argentinean researchers, probiotics can help to alleviate the negative effects that stress has on our immune systems. Stress disrupts the body’s natural balance, damaging the immune and endocrine systems. Stress also decreases population of beneficial bacteria that lives in the gut, which can cause inflammatory bowel disease as well as other GI problems. Probiotics, on the other hand, can offset this damaging process by repopulating the gut with good bacteria and reducing the negative impact that stress has on our immune systems.

Key Takeaways:

  • Stress creates an unnatural balance in the body, which has a negative effect on the endocrine, immune, and digestive systems.
  • Chronic stress disrupts the healthy microbiota in the gut, creating an imbalance in the gut, which can lead to inflammatory bowel disease.
  • Argentinian researchers have found that supplementing with probiotics is an effective and safe way to boost gut and immune system health, especially under stressful conditions.

“No wonder stress is associated with cardiovascular and autoimmune diseases, diabetes, and respiratory tract infections in humans.”
