McGee-Lawrence, Ph.D. and her colleagues published a new study in the journal Endocrinology that whole body vibration (aka WBV) machine had similar benefits as regular exercise and mimicked the muscle and bone health benefit of traditional exercise. The study showed that WBV could increase global bone formation in the obese mice, also showed similar effects to regular exercise on combating some negative consequences of diabetes and obesity. This could open a new approach for preventing bone loss. Whether the results would be applicable to humans, further study remains.
