Scientists have been studying the way the people’s taste buds identify flavor. Their research has shown there is a sixth taste that can be recognized by our tongues. This flavor is “starchy” and explains why many people crave food high in carbohydrates. In the study they conducted, scientists blocked people’s taste receptors for sweets and sugars and people were still able to taste the “starchy” flavor that is being associated with more complex carbohydrates.
